This is inspired by a website I love to read daily, Making it Lovely. Because really, what are we doing here on earth, if we aren’t trying to make things lovely for ourselves and others? As Nicole said, this no bucket list, if some of these things don’t happen before I die, well, I won’t haunt my kids wretchedly or anything like that. But I like purpose and intention and I like my kids to see us say “See we have a plan to make this life as happy and fabulous as possible and you should too!”
I just think a good deal of these things are wonderful ideas, goals, and ways to think or go about this thing called living. So. Here’s my list. Some things I’d like to accomplish sooner than later, some may never occur, but they all have a pretty important level of ‘cool factor’ in oir lives. In no particular order. The Lovely Life List, Liebert Style. Also, please enjoy my bro’s Father Day doodle for Nolan. It’s got unicorns, Storm Troopers, and Ninja Turtles. YES.
A Lovely Life List
I could split this up into things to achieve at some point in life, in five years, i ten years, so on and so forth . . . . but life isn’t like that. If there’s anything I have learned from 3 decades of existence, it’s that I may have a path and I can work very hard, so hard it hurts for the things I want in my life . . . but my life will come as it does. It will work out as it does. I have only a certain amount o control over how the thread unwinds. I used to think I could truly unwind my life in the exact order I wanted and really? I got served. So this list is in no particular order. It’s the things I think are lovely, that I and my husband and my kids want for ourselves, our family, and our world. It’s how we want to build our corner of this world because we believe in what we’ve got inside of ourselves to make things happen. I want to note that my little aside on how I may not be able to control how life turns out is no pity party. It’s not an emo “Well f*** it all, I’m living in a basement until I die and wallowing.” It’s an acknowledgement that there are forces larger than me and I have to work with it, not against it all. In the end, I just want my existence to be happy, graceful, and a testament to making life GOOD. Not enough people do that.
So, let’s get this party started!
-Have a Library. Can’t you see it? Fireplace, built in book cases, huge, comfy chairs, a sideboard, a reading window. It is glorious. Or even just a nook, with a fabulous reading chair, a great table and lamp and my books.
-Publish 5 books.
-Publish 3 cookbooks.
-Write each child of mine their own book, filled with letters from me. Been working on it and will give them each these . . . . when the time is right.
-Build our own home . . . maybe off the grid, totally dream. This is a huge dream of ours, making a home out of totally recycled/reclaimed materials that is self sustainable.
-Live in another country, or two, or three even.
-Visit as many states and countries as possible while these kids still live under our roof.
-Daily tea time and daily walks. Make time for the things that matter that are quiet and simple that do not clutter one’s mind.
-Own a household of things that are only simple, lovely, useful and make us happy.
-Make sure that we are debt free by the time we have no kids under this roof so we can pursue adventures of our own.
-Do lovely things, like knit, write, read, paint, take walks, daily to notice this wonderful world around us.
-Take my family to see wonderful places like the Redwoods, Monument Valley, NYC, Paris, the list is endless. I may have mentioned this before but travel is essential for the soul and a lovely life.
-Be Glinda for Halloween. Toss glitter about wherever I go that day. Also sing and have butterflies follow me about. Only parts of this may be possible. I also want to be the White Queen and probably Maleficent and to appease my husband a Ninja Turtle.
-Summer Camp outs. Under the stars. Smores. Hot dogs on skewers. Loving it.
-Adopt a child. Nolan is adopted and he adopted Eva. She is lucky to have her biodad and Nolan in her life. But I believe strongly that there are a lot of kids in this world that need a family and they are already out there. Waiting to go home.
-Leave Vermillion for good. (TOTALLY HAPPENING IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS!!!!! YES!!!!!)
-Own a pink wrap dress because I’m so ‘not’ obsessed with Legally Blonde. Same for the perfect pair of sparkly pink heels.
-Declutter my house every single season. Donate and recycle everything I declutter. Stylishly low maintenance home for me is the goal.
-Have children learn to volunteer regularly. Do it with them, so they see that making a difference can be the easiest thing you can do to make the world a bit brighter.
-Publish first book by the time I am under 32. PERIOD!!!
-Start a nonprofit. This may be in the works but I may not be able to give details. Tee hee!
-Collaborate with friends on writing and other projects that are equally awesome.
-Start business with husband.
-Touch a painting by Van Gogh.
-Go to fabulous conventions to speak at or see brilliant people and be inspired.
-Make it all count.
Now, y’all. Make your OWN Lovely Life List!!!
Sparkles,
Sara Rose
